David Jager (a.k.a. ‘The Professor’) grew up in Santa Rosa, California, where he always gravitated to the old part of town. Classically trained at the Conservatory of the Pacific in Stockton & the San Francisco conservatory, he grew more and more fascinated with the early piano styling of Barrel house, stride and ragtime. Obsessively collecting and learning from the records of James P. Johnson, Jelly Roll Morton and Earl Fatha Hines, he has gradually staked a claim for himself playing piano jazz you can shake a leg to.Mr. Jager has given over a thousand live performances to date in nightclubs, venues and festivals across the United States, Europe and Canada. In Montreal, he has played and sang for Swing Dynamique, Montreal’s Django inspired twelve piece big band with guitarist Mike King and drum legend Guy Nadon, appearing twice at the Montreal International Jazz Festival. Heading his own trio specializing in the early repertoire of Nat King Cole, he performed at the Jell-O bar in Montreal for two years running. Also a member of the legendary Montreal Ska band “The Kingpins” he has toured Canada and the U.S. and can be heard on their album “Let’s go to Work”. His latest recording with Swing Dynamique : “Mike King and Swing Dynamique” was released on Immigrant Records last fall. A huge enthusiast of burlesque, David has played with The Scandelles for the last season.
